Lisbon Rail to Trail Cycle Shop November 8, 2009

Lisbon Rail to Trail Cycle Shop and the Little Beaver Creek Trail

Ray and I took a ride to Lisbon Ohio to check a Catrike Bike Shop. We also rode a 11 mile Greenway bicycle trail.

We met the owners of the Lisbon Rail ToTrail Cycled Shop. They were very friendly. They gave us a lot of information concerning Tad Pole trikes. Tadpole trike are three wheel recumbent bike with two wheel up front.

Delta Trike have one wheel in front and two wheel in back.

A nearby business had a big parking lot where we rode the trikes. They were very relaxing to ride.

You were stretch out, almost laying flat which made the trike very comfortable.

After we test rode the trikes, we went out and check out the local Rail to Trail. It was called Little Beaver Creek Greenway Trail.. The trail follow the Erie Lackawanna Railroad to Leetonia .

It was a nice trail, with slight grades. The trail follow a small creek called Beaver Creek. Their was also a small Covered Bridge next to the Trail.

After we rode the 11 mile trail we return back to the bike shop where we park our car. The bike shop was still open. The owners invited us back in for some Pumpkin Pie. They were very nice and friendly and treated us like their family.

Ashtabula Covered Bridge Fesitival Bike Ride October 11, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — erieoutingclub @ 6:49 pm

The Ashtabula Covered Bridge Festival Ride
Well, here it is October already. I can’t believe the year is 3/4 gone. The Ashtabula Covered Bridge Festival is another wonderful activity in the tristate area. The Ashtabula Covered  Bridge Festival is the second weekend in October. North East Ohio has many Covered Bridges in a small area which make it nice for bicycle riding. They also have many activites going on at the Fairgrounds.

It rained in the morning off and on. But in the afternoon the Sun came out. We left the Jefferson Commmercial Park and rode to our first Bridge. The roads in this section of Ohio are mostly flat.
Also nice about this ride is the fact you will be riding on low traffic, country roads.

The Bridges were decorated for Fall Harvest season. Their was all kind of food for Sale. Breads,Cakes, Cookies, etc.  They also had  and hotdog and Warm Chile. This is not a bike ride where you will lose any weight. You spend more time stopping and eating then you do riding.
But what a great way to indulge on you favorite cupcake or bread.

We finnish the ride in a nice sun shining day So we decided to drive our cars and vist the longest Covered Bridge in the United State. It is locate off Route 84 on State Road in Ashtabula. What a site, it is pretty impressive..

Pymantuning Bike Ride September 11, 2009

Self- Supported Trike ride
 to Pymantuning State Park.

I did a self-supported trike ride from my house in Millcreek to Pymantuning State Park.
I use my wife trike. It work well pulling a B.O.B trailer with camping equipment.

I  used Route 5, Nash Road, Griffy-Beaver Road, and Pymantuning Lake Road.
The ride one way was about 48 miles.
Riding down was nice. I rode through Erie County and Crawford County. Griffy-Beaver Rd is one of my favorite roads to ride a bicycle through. It relatively flat, and very little traffic
You see beautiful farm lands along the road.

I took two days to the tour. One day down and one day back up to Erie.
I camp out at Pymantuning State Park on the Ohio side. It was right on the Ohio side of the reservoir.
Look like a great place to go Kayaking also. The camp was about 5 mile from Route 285 on Pymantuning Lake road.

I made another You Tube Video. I would set up the video camera along the road and ride by it.
I got a lot of second looks as I rode my trike and B.O.B trailer down the road. I guess it not every day you see somebody pulling a trailer while riding a trike.

.

We met at Mcdonalds in Westfield, New York. We then park some of the cars next
to the stairs coming out the the Gorge. We then preceeded to park the remaining cars at the
begining of the hike. The Chautauqua creek was very rocky, which made walking through the creek challenging.Their were many waterfalls along the creek, which may great swimmng holes.
The Gorge was very deep, with tall cliffs along the Gorge.

The Search for the Dead Vehicle Hike.

Paul, Ray, and I did a hike to find the Waymark of a Dead Vehicle in the State Games lands near Waterford. We use Ray’s GPS to find the parking lot. Their was a lot of snow.

Paul had snowshoes, but Ray and I only had hiking boots on. We sunk up to our knee sometimes while Paul stayed afloat using snowshoes.

I was never their before. The place has some nice wide trails well suited for cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, or hiking.

Their was a Geocach in the area and a waymark of a Bronco II under Dead Vehicles.

We look for the Geocach, but never found it. Maybe because of the deep snow. But we did find the Bronco. It was sitting in frozen water.

After  we found the Bronco we headed back and check out some of the other trails in the area. They were very wide and snow covered. I will have to go back a bring my ski’s.

Land of Lake Bike Ride

 Bike Ride
I arrived at the trail head around 10:30 a.m.
I waited unti around 11:00a.m. and nobody show up.
So I guess this was going to be a solo ride.
I rode toward Cambridge Springs on Miller Station road.
A nice  flat road, not much traffic.
I rode up route 99 to Finney’s Bulk foods and bought some yogurt covered Rasins.
I then left their a rode pass Campbell Pottery. I didn’t stop and I just kept riding
toward Venango. The road follow French Creek.French Creek was moving fast and high.
Not much in Venango.Their was a old service station full of old car parts.
After leaving Venango I went over French Creek on a interesting Bridge.
THen the ride took me back into Cambridge Spring where I got on to Route 408.
Route 408 took me past the Pa Pheasant Farm. Then I reach Swamp road which took me into
The state Wildlife Refuge.Great place for Birding. I seen many birds and ducks in the many ponds
I found  a hiking trail head along swamp road. The sign on it said Trolly Line Trail
I mark the trail with my GPS The coodinate are  41° 46.410′N  79° 58.356′W
I will have to check out the trail a different day.
Then I rode throuht Miller Station and toward my Car.
I finish the ride  and did about 25 miles. It was a very nice ride, mostly flat and very scenic.
